Braces and invisalign will bring you closer to gorgeous teeth, but in order to optimize your dental health, you also need to form your own helpful habits. In the new year, make it your goal to take care of your teeth, so they can shine as bright as you do!
1. Brush Your Teeth At Least Twice a Day
We recommend brushing your teeth morning and night, and if possible, after every meal. Make sure you take time brushing each tooth, as well as your tongue, making circular motions with your toothbrush. Your toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste can help reduce plaque on your teeth, which is essentially what causes tooth decay, cavities, and even gum disease, also known as gingivitis.
2. Floss, floss, floss!
Flossing is just as important as brushing your teeth. It stimulates the gums, which makes them stronger and less susceptible to inflammation and plaque buildup. If you wear braces, you should still floss. Here's how!
3. Avoid foods that are prone to tooth decay
Certain foods and beverages are more likely to stain your teeth, so limit how often you consume these items. This includes coffee, dark fruits, sweet candies, sugary drinks, and more. Try your best to choose healthier options when possible, such as water, lighter colored fruits (like bananas), or nuts.
4. Take Care of Your Orthodontic Appliances (If You Have Any)
If you have Invisalign, traditional or ceramic braces, or even retainers, you will need to prioritize caring and cleaning for these appliances. The cleaning process for each dental appliance varies, so speak with your orthodontist about a care routine that will work for you.
